WAMY Community Action, Inc.

The purpose of agency is ”to promote individual and family self-sufficiency in order to alleviate poverty at the root level and to enhance the quality of life of the residents of Watauga, Avery, Mitchell and Yancey counties.” To accomplish this W.A.M.Y. currently operates these major programs: Community Services Block Grant, Weatherization Assistance, After School Program, 21st Century Community Learning Center Afterschool Program (both afterschool programs are in Avery County.) Small Business Assistance, Unique Boutique Thrift Shop, Supportive Housing, Gardening, Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing.
