Randy “Doc” McCoy (founder of Doc’s Rocks Gem Mine & the Appalachian Fossil Museum) retired from the US Army as an Emergency Field Surgeon in 2002. After an extensive medical career, Doc decided to go back to college to study geology. He attended Appalachian State University where he double majored in Geology & Recreation Management.
Doc and his wife Trina founded ‘McCoy Minerals’ in 2007 based on their own personal strong family values and honesty. There are no ‘behind the scenes’ operations and all business is conducted in front of the public for all to see. We strive to treat every customer like family and ensure that they always feel welcome and know that they can trust our staff to give them the highest quality customer care possible.
