For five days in September, Avery County gets down to its roots. The annual Agricultural and Horticultural Fair showcases and rewards the best that the county has to offer in everything from perfect pumpkins to humongous hogs.
Blue ribbons are awarded in livestock, agricultural produce, arts and crafts, and, of course, Avery County's most vital export, Fraser Fir Christmas Trees.
In addition to the competitions, there are endless rows of midway rides and games all available for one low price and musical entertainment each night.
The Avery County Fair located at the New Heritage Park in Newland off Highway 194 behind Ingles Store. Hours are 5 p.m. "until" on Tuesday through Friday and noon "until" on Saturday.
Check the Fair Website for the latest details and directions to the Avery County Agricultural and Horticultural Fair, an old-fashioned good time.
